The broad theme of the webinar is architecture and design education and re-use of a school building designed by renowned architect Alvar Aalto. Experts’ presentations illustrate and explore for example engaging learning environments and participatory design methods.
The webinar is aimed at teachers, educators, supervisors, developers, and others interested in the topic. The Tehtaanmäki school (1939–1940) was designed for children as a learning environment by the architect and designer Alvar Aalto. The school is located in Inkeroinen, Kouvola, Southern Finland. A new use for the building is currently sought as school operations will end in Tehtaanmäki in 2024 with the reorganization of school network in Kouvola.
Is the future use in architecture and design education? How can the methods of architecture and design education be utilized in learning? The Building as an Educator is held in English. It is related to a three-part event Tehdes – Tehtaanmäki Design, which explores these pedagogical themes as well as the school building itself.
