The 16th Alvar Aalto Symposium – Weight of the Architecture was a hybrid event, onsite in Jyväskylä, Finland, and virtual for a large international audience around the world. The traditional onsite venue was the main building of the University of Jyväskylä (Alvar Aalto, 1955).

Thursday 22.8. at 9:00-11:00 was arranged a debate with the themes of Planetary boundaries, and ecological, social and economic sustainability. Hosted by Aalto University, Tampere University and the University of Oulu. Place: Aalto2 auditorium, Alvar Aallonkatu 7, Jyväskylä.
Friday 23.8. at 16:00-17:30 was seen a Finnish premiere of Bêka & Lemoine’s film “The Sense of Tuning” about the 2020 Alvar Aalto Medalist, architect Bijoy Jain and Studio Mumbai. The film was introduced by architect Tarja Nurmi. Place: The Assembly Hall of the Main Building of University of Jyväskylä, Seminaarinkatu 15, Jyväskylä.

The Alvar Aalto Foundation conserves archive material regarding Alvar Aalto as well as his spiritual legacy and acts as an international information centre for his architecture and design works. The foundation manages its collections, organizes exhibitions, produces publications and participates in architecture and design education in cooperation with industry and society at large.
