The 14th International Alvar Aalto Symposium gathered 250 architecture enthusiasts to the city of Jyväskylä on 30−31 August 2018.
Theme of the Symposium was New Housing Solutions for cities in change. The event focused on current challenges and opportunities for future housing design and construction in urban areas. Symposium´s nineteen speakers represented a diverse, multidisciplinary group of professionals and experts from the relevant fields of architecture.
The lecturers and participants from around the world once again produced a symposium that was rich with discussion and argument. One of the moderators of the event, Minna Lukander says: “I´m delighted by the passionate sharing of questions and solutions, even manifests we heard about housing design, construction and research”.
One on the speakers, architect Jeremy Till from UK says: “I admired the quality of the work presented, giving me hope that really good housing design is still possible. I also thought it was great that researchers and practitioners were given equal platforms.”
