The Alvar Aalto Researchers’ Network is an international collaboration initiated by the Alvar Aalto Foundation, which serves as a channel for discussion and cooperation between Alvar Aalto researchers. The network’s second seminar, the 2015 researchers’ conference Aalto beyond Finland. Architecture and Design, will take place in Rovaniemi City Hall on 16–18.2.2015. It is being arranged by the Alvar Aalto Foundation in collaboration with the City of Rovaniemi.

The academic working group for the seminar comprises the Director of the Alvar Aalto Academy Esa Laaksonen, Professor Panu Lehtovuori (Tampere University of Technology), Professor Aino Niskanen (Aalto University) and Dr Silvia Micheli (School of Architecture, University of Queensland, Australia).
The programme includes 36 selected papers, as well as several keynote speeches. The researchers come from different parts of the world and their research topics deal variously with the impact of Alvar Aalto’s life’s work outside Finland. The keynote speakers are Finnish and foreign experts on Alvar Aalto’s work.
Registration for the seminar opens on 30.10.2014. The fee of €270 covers the seminar programme, lunches and coffee. The fee for undergraduates is €50.
The seminar will be followed by two voluntary excursions, not included on the registration fee. The first, on 18–20.2.2015, is a tour of the architecture of Oulu, Seinäjoki and Alajärvi. Most of the sites visited have been designed by Alvar Aalto, and the trip ends in Helsinki. The second is a daytrip to the Alvar Aalto Library in Vyborg on 21.2.2015.
The first international Alvar Aalto Researchers’ Network seminar was held on 12–14.3.2012 in collaboration with Aalto University, Tampere University of Technology and the City of Seinäjoki. Most of the papers presented at the conference have been published online at: alvaraaltoresearch.fi.
