This year, the annual Alvar Aalto Week takes place in Kotka on 26.8–3.9.2023, its theme Löydä Sunila –Alvar Aallon aarteet tutuksi (Discover Sunila – Exploring Alvar Aalto’s treasures). This seventh Alvar Aalto Week invites you to explore Kotka’s built environment and the rich industrial heritage of the Sunila area.

The array of enjoyable events offers fascinating guided tours, theatre, film and music performances, lectures, brunches, a seminar on architecture and cultural tourism, and more. To round off the week of events, Sunila Aalto Homes -Weekend gives the public a chance to visit Sunila’s delightful apartments. Details of the diverse range of events for Alvar Aalto Week in Finnish here.

Alvar Aalto Week 2023 is being organised by the City of Kotka and the Alvar Aalto Foundation in collaboration with the various event producers.

Alvar Aalto Week is a dynamic urban event on themes variously related to architecture, design and art, and also to the underlying cultural, historical and contemporary phenomena. The six previous Alvar Aalto Weeks were in Seinäjoki, Jyväskylä, Turku/Paimio, Pori/Eura, Kouvola, and Wolfsburg.
