Save the date for the most interesting architecture event of the year


The Alvar Aalto Symposium program dealing with the contemporary questions on housing is out now!

The 14th International Alvar Aalto Symposium New housing solutions for cities in change will be arranged on 30−31 August, 2018 in Jyväskylä, Finland.

The interesting program and speakers for the symposium have been confirmed. The speakers represent a wide, multidisciplinary group of professionals and experts from the fields related to the symposium theme. These include among others: Selina Anttinen (Finland), Stephen Bates (UK), Damiano Cerrone (Italy), Édouard François (France), Mikkel Frost (Denmark), Ola Nylander (Sweden), Kristien Ring (Germany), Verena von Beckerath (Germany), Anne Kaestle (Switzerland), Peter Pichler (Italy), Jeremy Till (UK), Elina Alatalo (Finland), Jaakko Blomberg (Finland), Antti Lehto (Finland), Katja Maununaho (Finland), Elli Mosayebi (Switzerland), Sini Saarimaa (Finland) and Jyrki Tarpio (Finland). The chair of the event is Finnish architect, professor Markku Hedman. This year the Alvar Aalto Symposium focuses on current challenges and opportunities for future housing design and construction in urban areas. The theme will be investigated for example from the following perspectives: Cultural variables, Sharing, Adaptability and Emerging typologies. The event will be held in English. The additional program of the symposium includes architectural excursions and an exhibition Alvar Aalto as a housing designer at the Alvar Aalto Museum in Jyväskylä, Finland.

The Alvar Aalto Symposium is an international forum for discussion on contemporary architecture. It is a triennal event, that brings professionals from around the world together to engage in currrent architectural topics. The aim is to stimulate critical discussion about the artistic, social and technical challenges faced by contemporary architecture. The event is organized by the Alvar Aalto Academy / Alvar Aalto Foundation this year together with the City of Jyväskylä, Academy of Finland plus numerous other partners.
