Location: AALTO – Work and Life exhibition (2nd floor)

Jyväskylä is home to three Alvar Aalto architectural sites — Säynätsalo Town Hall, Muuratsalo Experimental House, and the Seminaarimäki University Campus — which are nominated for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Aalto Works serial nomination, comprising 13 sites, will receive its final decision in July.

During the event day, experts representing these sites will share visitors’ experiences as well as their own personal connections to the buildings.

Pirjo Vuorinen, former Director of the Jyväskylä University Museum, will speak about highlights from her career within the Aalto campus buildings, where humane design is particularly prominent. Harri Taskinen, entrepreneur responsible for the operations of Säynätsalo Town Hall, will discuss experiences of both international visitors and his own perspective as a resident of the building. Anne-Maija Malmisalo-Lensu, a doctoral researcher in art history specializing in Aalto sites, will present stories and experiences shared by visitors to the Experimental House.

At the end of the event, staff from the Alvar Aalto Museum will introduce the summer exhibition 13 Stories about Humane Design. The guided tour lasts approximately 30 minutes. The event will be held in Finnish.

The guided tour is included in the museum centre’s admission fee and is part of the Aalto2 Summer Opening event.
