News updated 6.5.2020
The Alvar Aalto Foundation’s Museum sites – the Alvar Aalto Museum in Jyväskylä and the Aalto House and Studio Aalto in Helsinki – are closed in line with Government of Finland guidelines at least until May 13, 2020. We will keep the audience informed if the situation changes.
Although the sites are currently physically closed, you can still explore Aalto´s architecture and design on our digital channels.
You can make virtual visits to the Alvar Aalto Museum and Studio Aalto. The website showcases an interesting, continually expanding selection of Aalto’s modern architecture and design classics. You can delve into these always equally topical gems of architecture and design here. Discover what lies behind the world’s most famous three-legged stool in the online exhibition Stool makes history, while the story of a key work of modern architecture is told in another online exhibition: Paimio Sanatorium.
Aino and Alvar Aalto. Shared Visions. Innovations in Wood Bending Technology & Design of Furniture is now at the Takaneka Carpentry Tools Museum in Kobe, Japan. The exhibition tells the story of Aino and Alvar Aalto’s furniture design and manufacturing, and of the founding of the Artek company. You can make a virtual visit to this fascinating exhibition and view it on video.
A fascinating narrative lets you really live and breathe the glowing works and their backgrounds in Inka Kivalo’s Personae exhibition, previously shown in the Alvar Aalto Museum Gallery. The presentation is rounded off with photographs that convey the mood of the works in their own unique way.
You may plan your future trips to Aalto sites using our Visit Alvar Aalto web service. The updated travel service now has better mobile usability, with the addition, for instance, of maps that make trip planning easier.
Now is also a good moment to take a look at the Alvar Aalto Shop’s offerings and to get something nice to do at home. For instance, the online store has a memory game suitable for the whole family, high-quality literature on architecture and design for book lovers, and timeless interior design products for your home this spring.
