How to make peace as a critical impetus for powerful innovation today?
Public program of the event included an open panel discussion over the outcomes of the colloquium continued by an evening party. The event was held at the Alvar Aalto Museum on Saturday 15 June 2019.
The two-day International Aino and Alvar Aalto Design Colloquium – DESIGN & PEACE sought answers to the questions over the theme. Here are video recordings of the introductory presentations from three specific viewpoints: 1. Peace in Society; 2. Conflicts and Peace; and 3. Spatial Peace.

What is the meaning of peace? It’s not just the opposite of war
The critical thoughts and ideas that surfaced during the colloquium, have now have been compiled to a book which features out-takes from the discussions, interviews with the participants and a tour of the Säynätsalo Town Hall (1949-1952) by Alvar Aalto, in which the colloquium took place. Design & Peace is published by the Alvar Aalto Foundation. It is available for free download on the official website of the colloquium and will be for purchase in the webshop of Alvar Aalto Foundation.
