The Making Places exhibition, which explores the handiwork and people-centred approach of the Taiwanese Fieldoffice Architects, is coming to the Alvar Aalto Museum Gallery in Jyväskylä.

Several of Fieldoffice Architects and Principal Architect Sheng-Yuan Huang’s projects are located in the Taiwan’s Yilan City with its half-a-million population. Besides the political and economic circumstances, the extreme monsoon rains and tropical storms that ravage Yilan each year make the architect’s work challenging and demand a holistic understanding of the city.

”Huang’s office makes fascinating interventions in urban structure. They genuinely seek to resolve the city’s problems and to make people’s lives a bit better with the aid of architecture,” says Director of the Alvar Aalto Foundation Tommi Lindh.

The exhibition presents Fieldoffice’s most interesting projects in scale models, drawings, photographs and texts.

The exhibition opening will be celebrated on Thursday, October 6, 2016, starting at 18:00. Before the opening, there is an opportunity to attend an open seminar at 15:00–18:00 at the Museum of Central Finland, where speakers will include the architect Sheng-Yuan Huang. There will also be a seminar in Helsinki on Tuesday, October 4. Further details here.

The exhibition has previously been shown in Japan and Taiwan. The exhibition is starting its tour of Europe at the Alvar Aalto Museum, and from Finland will potentially go on to Estonia, Czechia and Spain. The exhibition has been produced by AM-Alliance for Architectural Modernity-Taiwan.
