”In Search of HOUSE?/HOME?”, the autumn lecture hosted by the Alvar Aalto Academy, will take place on Wednesday, 20 November, at 5 pm in the Ateneum Hall.

The lecture will be given by Professor Wim van den Bergh, from RWTH Aachen University, an excellent interpreter of the history of modern architecture.

The subject of Bergh’s lecture is the penthouse designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret for Carlos de Beistegui, the legendary snob and millionaire. The masterpiece, built on the roof of a Champs Elysées mansion, no longer exists. However, the lecture will illustrate an interesting aspect of European cultural history in the intersection of the luxury lifestyle of the Parisian elite and the austerity of modern architecture.
