The Alvar Aalto Foundation is the custodian of Aalto’s intellectual and material legacy and seeks to bring Aalto’s humane thinking into the discussion about the built environment. Under the leadership of Alvar, Aino and Elissa Aalto, Aalto’s architect’s office created an unprecedented body of internationally recognised buildings and building groups, interiors, and design objects. In January 2025, the Finnish State submitted a proposal (Aalto Works) that Aalto’s sites be added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
