The 4th International Alvar Aalto Researcher’s Network Seminar will now be held next spring. It will take place in Pori, Finland, in May 2021. Precise dates and the programme will be announced in August 2020.

The Seminar’s theme, (EVER)GREEN ALVAR AALTO, prompts us to ponder from a variety of perspectives the different aspects of Alvar Aalto’s architectural production, working methods and architectural thinking, and their relevance to the architectural design and culture of the 2020s.

The theme can be approached from pragmatic, theoretical, metaphorical or cultural viewpoints, which are particularly relevant when we are talking about the future of buildings:

  • How can Alvar Aalto’s architecture and design be regarded as being sustainable?
  • How does Alvar Aalto’s architecture resonate in other architectural contexts?
  • How is sustainability addressed in restoration/reuse projects in buildings of the Aalto era?

Call for Papers

The Call for Papers for this event coordinated by the Alvar Aalto Academy is being re-opened. Abstracts and appendices should be submitted by September 15, 2020.

The Alvar Aalto Academy invites researchers and practitioners to explore the theme of (EVER)GREEN ALVAR AALTO. The Academy looks forward to receiving proposals in response to the Open Call. For further information about the Seminar and Call for Papers available here.

The International Alvar Aalto Researcher’s Network Seminar is being arranged in co-operation with the Alvar Aalto Academy and the City of Pori. Pori is a member of the International Network of Alvar Aalto Cities and will chair the Network in 2020.

The Alvar Aalto Researcher’s Network is an international collaboration that serves as a channel for discussion and cooperation between people doing research on Alvar Aalto. The Network helps to highlight research topics of interest for Aalto research dealing with Alvar Aalto and his architect’s office’s production and related subject areas.
