Makia Clothing and Alvar Aalto Foundation have partnered up for a first of its kind collaboration. A collection of timeless streetwear inspired by Alvar Aalto´s groundbreaking works as an architect and designer.

Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) is a true icon of a modern architecture, leaving a deep footprint in the history of design with his individual and distinctively humane approach. His work was marked by an ability to create structures that are both functional and human, with a dynamic relationship with nature and superbly executed details.

With co-operation of the Alvar Aalto Foundation, Makia had the privilege of studying the original archives of Alvar Aalto´s architectural office, and from this we have compiled a clothing collection that is interpreted through our eyes and at the same time honours the legacy of Alvar Aalto, the master of line and form.

“Making cultural heritage produced by Alvar Aalto better known to a wider audience has never been as exciting as it has been working together with Makia. It´s exhilarating to see young people today interested in Makia´s clothing and in Aalto´s architeture and design. But now we get a chance to test how well they work together. We´re not here to make speeches we´re here to make quality products.”, says Tommi Lindh, CEO of the Alvar Aalto Foundation.

Alvar Aalto & Makia clothing collection will be launched at the Alvar Aalto Museum in Jyväskylä at 16-18 on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Snacks will be served and star DJ Joniveli will provide the music. Welcome!

The new range is available October 15th from Makia flagship- and webstore, selected premium retailers and online. The selected products are also available at the Alvar Aalto Foundation´s Museum shops in Jyväskylä and Helsinki.
