Alvar Aalto – Second Nature, one of the most important exhibitions about the life and work of Alvar Aalto, opens at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany, at the end of September. This retrospective survey demonstrates Aalto’s relationship with natural forms and the influence of Aalto’s artist contemporaries on his production. The exhibition is open to the public 27.9.2014–1.3.2015.
Exhibits include small-scale models and original drawings of Aalto’s buildings, plus furniture, light fittings and glass objects. Also on display are works by other well-known artists, such as Alexander Calder and Jean Arp.
“The exhibition has benefitted throughout from the Alvar Aalto Museum’s archives, collections and wide-ranging Aalto knowledge and expertise. The Chief Curator of the Alvar Aalto Museum, Katariina Pakoma, has been the working group’s co-curator,” says Director of the Alvar Aalto Foundation Tommi Lindh.
From Germany the exhibition is to tour elsewhere in the world.
