This year’s Symposium focuses on the urgent issue of New Housing Solutions for Cities in Change. The Symposium programme consists of nineteen fascinating speeches by professionals and experts representing the latest in housing design and research.
At the Alvar Aalto Symposium you can hear about the Strategic Research Council’s (Academy of Finland) topical Urbanising Society project, which contributes to the study how cities can respond to residents’ needs.
The results of the Asuntoreformi 2018 residential-design competition will also be announced at the Symposium on 30 August 2018 at 5 pm.

With its 140,000 plus population, Jyväskylä is a bold, attractive city set in the heart of Finnish Lakeland. Jyväskylä is known as a vibrant student city with a lively sports culture, as well as being the venue for a wide variety of events. This resource-rich capital city of Alvar Aalto’s architecture combines an urban pulse with the proximity of nature in a manner rarely encountered elsewhere.
To coincide with the Alvar Aalto Symposium, Jyväskylä is also hosting the multi-artistic urban event, Alvar Aalto Week. The programme ranges from architecture and design to the built environment.
Jyväskylä has been hosting the legendary Alvar Aalto Symposiums for nearly four decades – the first time in 1979. You are welcome to experience the Symposium’s unique atmosphere in the city of Alvar Aalto!
You can find the Alvar Aalto Symposium also on social media. Click to open Facebook to get the latest news and highlights of the event and find out the Symposium speakers’ presentations on Instagram.
