The Alvar Aalto Nature Seminar was held in an urban environment familiar to architect Alvar Aalto, at the University of Jyväskylä premises, Ruusupuisto Park. The two-part, free seminar, open to everyone, presented Alvar Aalto’s garden designs and cultural landscapes, Jyväskylä’s urban nature, national urban parks and the Päijänne biosphere. organisers were Alvar Aalto Foundation, City of Jyväskylä, JUYWisdom and Jyväskylä Festival. Environment is the main theme of Jyväskylä Festival 2021.

10.00-12.00 University of Jyväskylä, Ruusupuisto. Recent research data, presentations and discussion about Alvar Aalto’s relationship with nature, cultural landscapes and garden design. The seminar experts in architecture and gardening are: Tom Simons, Teija Isohauta, Vilhelm Helander and Johan Mårtelius (in English).
12.00-13.00 Lunch
13.00-13.30 Head of Master Planning at the City of Jyväskylä Mervi Vallinkoski: the Green Loop, the central park embracing the Jyväskylä city centre.
13.30-14.00 Environmental consultant Jukka-Pekka Flander and the Finnish National Urban Parks
14.00-14.30 Expert Päivi Halinen and Päijänne biosphere, the unique natural environment of Central Finland and Päijät-Häme and how it is being developed.
14.30-15.00 Local environmental discussion
