A land surveying engineer’s office was housed on the ground floor and the central open staircase led to more private spaces on the upper floor.
The building’s courtyard was a well-kept ornamental garden, which was the domain of Väinö’s wife, Toini. A yard building with a garage was built in the northeast corner of the yard in 1938.
Villa Väinölä has housed a variety of activities over the years, from municipal offices to a doctor’s practice. The building came under the management of the municipality of Alajärvi in 1952. During the period 1966-1994 the building was used as a joint residence and municipal offices. Nowadays, Villa Väinölä is a cultural space owned by the municipality of Alajärvi and managed by the Nelimarkka Museum, where, for instance, exhibitions and residency activities take place.
