Finnish architecture and design will be prominently on display in an exhibition at The State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, 14.11.2015–31.1.2016. “The Golden Generation: Modernism in Finnish Architecture and Design” is showing the handiwork of Alvar Aalto and other masters of Modernism.

The exhibition takes visitors deep into the thinking underlying Finnish architecture and design: the ideal of the good life. The aim is demonstrate how design can significantly improve quality of life.

The Hermitage is showing more than 400 original drawings, objects and dozens of small-scale models, from the 1930s to 1960s. The exhibition is accompanied by various interesting events, including lectures.

The Golden Generation has been mounted in collaboration with The Hermitage’s Contemporary Art Department, Alvar Aalto Foundation, Museum of Finnish Architecture, Design Museum, Finnish Institute in St Petersburg and the Consulate General of Finland in St Petersburg.
