Come and experience the film club Projektio through open-air film screenings at Studio Aalto!

The garden of Studio Aalto is a remarkable sight for cinema lovers: it is, quite clearly, an outdoor movie theatre. Opposite the rising amphitheatre is a white wall that serves perfectly as a projection screen. Join us to experience this gem of modern architecture from a new perspective through the magic of cinema.

The event takes its name from Projektio, a film club founded in 1934 that focused on artistic and experimental cinema. In its early years, the club was chaired by Alvar Aalto. The program included short films by Aalto’s modernist contemporaries and friends, such as László Moholy-Nagy and Fernand Léger, as well as feature-length silent films by Charlie Chaplin.

Nina Forsman and Sakari Suuronen’s Lentävä kuolema is like an X-ray of the scars left by tuberculosis—scars we have kept silent about for decades. The film offers glimpses of life at the Paimio Sanatorium, known as Alvar and Aino Aalto’s breakthrough work. The screening will open with an introduction by one of the filmmakers.
