Alvar Aalto’s Viipuri (Vyborg) Library (1935) is one of the most important of Aalto’s designs to have aroused worldwide interest. The restoration project of the Central City Alvar Aalto Library in Vyborg has now progressed to a new and decisive stage. The Government of the Russian Federation has decided to finance the project, but the Library itself will be project-managing the restoration. The Finnish Committee for the Restoration of Viipuri Library is acting as a consultant to the project in an advisory capacity and steers and supervises the design and construction. The restoration work will be completed in 2013.
Further information on the progress of the work can be obtained by e-mail from vyborg@alvaraalto.fi
