The International Alvar Aalto Café seminar, themed ‘Abundance’, will be held from 30 to 31 August 2014 in Jyväskylä, Finland. Through the theme, the architecture and design seminar will explore the future and expectations of human and human-centric architecture and design.
The keynote speaker for the seminar, giving his first speech in Finland, will be Harvard University professor of architectural theory and criticism Sanford Kwinter. In addition to Kwinter, the floor will also be taken by the Australian transport planner for the Guggenheim Lab Rachel Smith, the architecture critic and curator Marco Brizzi and the architect Klaas Hofman from the MVRDV architecture and urbanism practice. A professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Luisa Collina, and the interior architect and designer Esa Vesmanen will elaborate on the theme from the point of view of design.
The Alvar Aalto Café will be chaired by Aalto University professor, and design director at KONE Corporation, Anne Stenros. The event will be organised by the Alvar Aalto Academy.
The event will be in English, and there is no admission charge.
