The Alvar Aalto Foundation is the custodian of Alvar Aalto’s architectural heritage and has launched a fundraising campaign to pay for the renovation of Studio Aalto. Let’s work together to ensure that Aalto’s architecture is kept alive for future generations, too.
We are appealing for funds for the renovation of Studio Aalto. By donating, you can help us ensure that pre-emptive maintenance and repairs can be carried out on time. Studio Aalto is part of the formal proposal to add thirteen Aalto sites to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Donations will be used to restore the doors and wooden parts of the façade overlooking the courtyard. The renovation work is scheduled for summer 2025. Read more about the site for which funds are being raised.
Buildings require constant care and timely renovation and we at the Alvar Aalto Foundation want to set an example of sustainable use of modern architecture. “By taking good care of buildings and doing minor repair jobs a bit at a time, we can best avoid expensive, large-scale complete renovations. The issue is also important from an ecological viewpoint, since pre-emptive repair construction and maintenance allow us to act in an environmentally responsible way, and thus also to contribute to mitigating global climate change,” says Alvar Aalto Foundation CEO Tommi Lindh.
Get involved in supporting the preservation of Aalto’s nationally and internationally significant architectural heritage. Fundraising period: 1.7–30.9.2024. More about the campaign here.
The Alvar Aalto Foundation provides expert assistance in renovation projects on Aalto buildings and in issues related to their maintenance. It seeks out the best design solutions, repair methods and materials, while respecting Aalto’s original architecture and goals. The Foundation has an extensive archive of original drawings by Aalto’s architect’s office, as well as photograph and construction-document archives, which are used in planning repairs.
