Thirty pieces of furniture and lamps from the Alvar Aalto Museum collections are on display in a Japanese curated touring exhibition titled “The Essence of Finnish Design and Culture”. In this extensive review of Finnish culture the tradition of Finnish art and design is presented from the 19th century to the present day. In addition to Alvar Aalto’s works, the exhibition also includes works from the collections of, among others, the Design Museum, the Association of Finnish Fine Arts Foundations and the Gallen-Kallela Museum. Included are also paintings by Tove Jansson and original illustrations from the Moominvalley Collection of Tampere Art Museum.
