Course Aim
Rather than focusing on individual architectural masterpieces as previous courses have done, the international MARC 2006 course will concentrate on the conservation problems of everyday suburbs built in the 1960s and 1970s, including technical, landscape, and social aspects.

Course Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to identify values, recognize and evaluate ideas and contexts, and understand problems and solutions related to the urban, architectural, technical, material, and structural aspects of industrialized suburban housing developments of the recent past. Furthermore, participants will be able to better understand the essential elements of the decision-making process for conservation, and be able to develop arguments for the conservation of the modern built heritage, including the means to communicate them.

Course methodology
The course is an intensive programme combining theory and practice through lectures, practical fieldwork and study tours to Scandinavia and Estonia.

Language
A good knowledge of English is required as it will be the working language throughout the course.

Course fee: 1500 €
