the new face of ptah
The English-language magazine ptah, published by the Alvar Aalto Academy, has been revamped. Formerly published biannually, this magazine specialising in architecture, design and art now comes out once a year. With regard to content, the publication conforms to the original concept from 1999, featuring both in-depth articles and short reviews of architecture and art from an international viewpoint. In addition to architecture, the magazine presents projects by designers and students, visual art and photography related to the built environment, and interesting literature.
Ptah also publishes key articles from symposiums, seminars and research conferences arranged by the Alvar Aalto Academy.
In its new format, the magazine has been published twice:
ptah 08 focuses on the building-designing-thinking conference that took place in 2008,
and ptah 09 features most of the lectures presented at the 2006 Alvar Aalto Symposium under the theme less and more. Highlights include Places heard, sounds seen by the composer Gavin Bryars from Britain, and Timo Valjakka's article on the art of Charles Sandison, a Tampere-based Scot.
The magazine is designed by Susanna Raunio; the editor-in-chief is Esa Laaksonen and the editor Elina Penttinen.
