International Architectural Education Workshop Eileen Adams [UK] , Tutor of the workshop 
Eileen Adams MA (RCA) B.Ed is a consultant who has wide experience in education, as a teacher, lecturer, researcher and writer, working in the UK and abroad. She was Director of the Schools Council Art and the Built Environment Project and Director of the research project, Learning through Landscapes. Eileen is currently Education Programme Leader of Power Drawing, the education programme of the Campaign for Drawing. From 2004, she will be responsible for evaluation of the Shaping Places Project developed by the Kent Architecture Centre, which aims to develop working partnerships between education and design professionals, to embed built environment studies in schools in the south of England.Eileen is a visiting senior lecturer at Middlesex University and an academic tutor on the MSc Education for Sustainability programme at South Bank University. In 2003, work abroad took her to the USA, Japan and Portugal. In 2004, she will work in Sweden, the USA, Finland and Spain. She is an External Examiner at Chelsea School of Art, Glasgow School of Art and the University of Strathclyde and an examiner in visual arts for the International Baccalaureate. She is Chair of the Education Panel for the Design Commission for Wales, Chair of Governors at Eveline Lowe Primary School and a member of the steering group for Learning Environments of the Future, a research project funded by the Commission for the Built Environment (CABE). Download Resume [DOC, 37kb] Download Publications [DOC, 23kb] Projects and CV's of the participants The Alvar Aalto Academy has arranged, with the Alvar Aalto Museum and Jyväskylä City, for an International Architectural Workshop Soundings for Architecture 5 to be held in August 2004 in Jyväskylä. The workshop will continue the series of International Architectural Workshops begun in summer 2003. This year's workshop will feature fundamental questions involved in architectural education from the viewpoint of urban environments and street furniture on the theme "Designing for the Environment". The Workshop will link up with the Alvar Aalto Design Seminar, also at the end of August, at which lectures will be given by leading lights in international design. Sixteen architects and designers from around the world will take part in the Architectural Workshop. They will come from Denmark, England, Finland, France, Iceland, the Netherlands, Poland, Scotland, Sweden, Turkey and the USA. Professor Eileen Adams of London, who has extensive experience in art, design and environmental education, will be Tutor of Participants. Prof. Adams has taught in several architectural schools around the world and published numerous books about the subject. An architectural course will be held in English in collaboration with the Teacher Training School's upper level. Young people in the Ninth Grade will design street furniture in city centre locations they select. Park benches, bicycle stands, lights and refuse containers of an entirely new variety may well result from this venture. A small photographic exhibition will be arranged portraying the results of the workshop. Työpaja jatkaa kesällä 2003 alkanutta kansainvälisten arkkitehtuurikasvatustyöpajojen sarjaa. Tämän vuoden työpajassa pohditaan arkkitehtuurikasvatuksen problematiikkaa kaupunkiympäristöjen ja kadunkalusteiden näkökulmasta teemalla "Designing for the Environment". Työpaja liittyy elokuun lopulla pidettävään Alvar Aalto Design -seminaariin, jonne on tulossa luennoimaan kansainvälisen designin kärkinimiä. Arkkitehtuurityöpajaan osallistuu 16 arkkitehtia tai suunnittelijaa ympäri maailmaa. Osallistujia on tulossa Englannista, Hollannista, Islannista, Puolasta, Ruotsista, Ranskasta, Skotlannista, Suomesta, Tanskasta, Turkista, ja Yhdysvalloista. Osallistujien ohjaajana toimii arkkitehtuurikasvatuksen professori Eileen Adams Lontoosta, jolla on laajasti kokemusta taideen, designin tai ympäristökasvatuksen aloilta. Adams on opettanut useissa arkkitehtuurikouluissa ympäri maailmaa ja julkaissut lukuisia kirjoja aiheesta. Yhteistyössä Normaalikoulun yläasteen kanssa järjestetään englanninkielinen arkkitehtuurikurssi, jossa Normaalikoulun yhdeksäsluokkalaiset nuoret suunnittelevat kadunkalusteita kaupungin keskustaan valitsemilleen paikoille. Kurssilla saattaa syntyä täysin uudenlaisia puistonpenkkejä, pyörätelineitä, valaisimia tai roskakoreja kaupunkilaisten iloksi. Työpajan tuotoksista järjestetään pienimuotoinen valokuvanäyttely.
