In conjunction with an extension to their club premises, the University of Helsinki Hämäläis Osakunta students' association commissioned some interior design work from the young architects Aino and Alvar Aalto, who were based in Jyväskylä. The commission was to design the interiors of the hall, the assembly hall, lounge and ladies' room. The furniture styles vary from full-blown Renaissance to Classicism, following the eclecticism that was then in fashion. It seems likely that three of these Renaissance-style chairs were made to go behind the massive conference table.
