Easy chair Alvar Aalto Museum collection / loaned by Oy Artek Ab Designer: Alvar Aalto Designed: 1946/47 Maker: Oy Huonekalu- ja Rakennustyötehdas Ab The leg/arm combination in this chair was used to support several different seats, in many of which Maija Heikinheimo's touch can be seen. There are at least nine different variations on this particular chair, one of which was used in the library at the National Pensions Institute, for example. The interior designer Maija Heikinheimo (1908-1963) came to Artek in 1937 and worked there until her death in 1963. She was an independent designer who was trusted by Alvar Aalto and was allowed to make final drawings from the master's sketches.
